Project management is never an exact science, but when you combine it with the vagaries of software development, you have a recipe for disaster. I have seen a fair number of common mistakes that project managers make when working with software development projects.
Make sure it works!
Big companies often seem to struggle with this simple piece of advice. It happens that app is not perfect working order upon release. It’s a big mistake, because if app gets stuck in the lower rankings it’ll have a very hard time clawing back up. Very often you can see the games which have problem with load times, warped images.
Companies focused on making money and getting an app out, forget to update their apps. Nowadays it is very hard to hide some information, especially when developer abandoned their apps. Don’t forget about your customer, because he forgets about you. There is nothing worse than a lack of support from your developer.
Know your target
Identifying your marketing targets enables you to find opportunities and tap into them. It gives you the information needed to focus on the buyers that are interested in what you have to offer, but very often developers don’t pay attention on it. This makes the game not reach suitable target and therefore its financial goal.
It’s important to keep in touch with people. Companies forget about it. Good contact with people allows us to improve our apps. Let people know where things stand, both on a regular basis and when milestones are accomplished or the status changes.
Transforming something as intangible as an idea into a tangible, playable, enjoyable app is an exciting adventure, but we should remember that not every app is worth the purchase.
